Motorcycles and Roman cobblestone roads!
By 36 Special on Apr 5, 2007 in Motorcycle Rides
Today while gathering up the crew and dropping some off I had the privilege to travel a stretch of road that I have traveled many times but had no idea of this particular roads history. Heck I thought it was just another cobblestone road in between a couple of rural communities but one of my friends that I was riding with explained to me that it was the longest continual, Roman Built cobblestone road left in Belgium. Now when I move back to the US this summer I know that opportunities like this, that I take for granted now, will not crop up very often. I mean right now we can get a group of people together, head to one of the city centers and sit around soaking up the atmosphere surrounded by buildings that may have been built when America was still very young or before that even. I am not sure where you can find that type of place back in the US. Maybe New Orleans or another old city but you can’t just go to the next town over like you can here. Understand this, I love the US and I can’t wait to get back to the open roads and familiar places but there will always be a part of me that will miss this place. If you have never been to Europe then you need to do yourself a favor and try to go. I mean when you can drive 2 hours and see a 15th century castle or ride on a road built by the Romans that is something to cherish. This has been an opportunity of a lifetime and I am glad I was able to come here to work for a few years.
